Foundation Model Primer (Dec 2022 Edition)

Hey all, I missed this week's Future Unicorn post to write this 30+ page report on Foundation Models for you. Probably not the typical Christmas read but, hey, why not.

Since this primer was first written in August 2022, there have been major developments from massive funding for startups like Jasper to expanding applicability of foundation models to actions to the wildfire popularity of ChatGPT. OpenAI's release of DALL E-2 and ChatGPT made AI cross the chasm towards the general population. Interacting either products kindled the imagination of individuals across generations. 2022 is marked by generative AI applications but foundation models is a broader term with wider applications and larger opportunities.
